TWO GREAT ROAD TRIPS FROM CARTAGENA, SPAIN

Route 1 - Cartagena to Murcia and Elche    

Drop the top of your Porsche 911 Targa and head off inland on a scenic half hour drive to Murcia and Elche. Murcia will delight with its Moorish castle on top of the Monteagudo mountain, it can be seen from anywhere in the city. Explore the Sierra Espuña, pine forests on a short walk and then enjoy a swim at one of the magnificent beaches.

Back in your car, head north Abanilla. This town is known for its food and wine and lunch is a must. Order a paella, rabbit or snails. Make sure you buy a bottle of iconic olive oil. It is manufactured in the traditional way, pressed in local mills. Now veer east to Elche. It offers a wealth of archaeological sites to explore. The city is also known for the Palmeral of Elche, the largest palm grove in the world with over 200.000 palm trees, listed on the Unesco Heritage Sites list. We can collect your car here or meet you back in Cartagena.

Route 2 - Day trip from Cartagena to Aguilas

Drive along the scenic Mediterranean coast of Spain in your elite Mercedes V-Class to Aguilas. It is a trip of just under an hour and makes a perfect day outing. This town was designed by King Charles III of Spain in the 18th century and became an important sea port. A type of grass called Esparto was exported and used to make rope and baskets. Explore the beautiful St John of Águilas Castle, a massive fortress that towers over the town. Snap some photos the famous black and white striped lighthouse that has been in operation since the mid 19th century.

Swim in the crystal clear waters of La Higuerica Beach and then take a boat trip to La Isla del Fraile to enjoy bird watching and dolphin spotting. Back on land, lunch at El Pimiento, they make fabulous tapas!
